A man has been jailed after he grabbed his partner by the neck and told, “if you don’t arrest me, I’ll murder her”.
The shocking incident happened on June 13 at around 12.30pm when police officers were called to the house of 66-year-old Raymond Yardy, after reports that an argument between him and his wife became violent. Officers rushed to the property on Coneygree Road in Peterborough to assess the situation.
Officers discovered the row had started when Yardy had become frustrated that his wife’s had damaged the carpet and he accused her of having a Things quickly esculated and he put his hands around her neck and threatened to kill her, which prompted her to call police.
Officers arrived and after speaking to Yardy and his wife separately, it was decided she would spend the night at a friend’s house. However just as officers were about to leave Yardy's shocking behaviour in front of officers lead to his arrest.
Yardy became agitated, putting his hands around his wife’s neck in front of officers and dragging her back inside the house. Yardy insisted officers should arrest him and threatened to kill his wife before offering his hands to be cuffed.
Four months later, on Tuesday, October 8, Yardy pleaded guilty to making threats to kill and at Peterborough and he was jailed for one year and eight months for the offence.
PC Ryan Grist, who investigated, said: “Yardy’s actions in front of police officers showed just how violent he was capable of being. He showed no remorse and, had he not been jailed, his victim would likely have suffered more abuse at his hands.”
