Amanda Owen's exploration on Monday night's episode of Our Farm Next Door took a "morbid" turn when she decided to delve into the history of Anty Johns and its original occupants.

On a day off, the shepherdess visited Derek at the County Record's Office, where he unearthed the diary of Anty John's owner, revealing that the man had died within the very walls of the home.

Derek outlined his plan for the day: "The intention today is to go through as many documents as I can with Amanda to point out who was at Anty John's, who was born there, who died, and what the backstory of the actual house is. Hopefully, back to the 1600s."

Keen to uncover her home's past, Amanda expressed her intent to the historian: "I guess what I am wanting to find out is who in this extensive family tree was actually residing in my house at Anty John's."

Spotlighting Anthony Clarkson's lineage, Derek revealed: "What we want to find out is the Anthony Clarkson side of the family," .

He then led Amanda through the Clarksons' genealogy, ending with John, the last of their kin to reside at Anty John's, who died in 1900.

Intrigued by the records, including John Clarkson's inquest details, Amanda read aloud from the document: "The body of the man, aged about 81, is lying dead at Smithy Home (Anty John's)."

She learned of John's final moments: "Time of death 6am, 5th December 1900. At about 9am on Tuesday, the housekeeper, Anne, proposed to send for the doctor, but the deceased would not hear of it."

With a chuckle, Amanda continued on, quoting: "And said, 'I shall soon be better and about'. I know it's kind of morbid, but it sort of humanizes people when you hear about it."

Detailing the past, she continued: "So basically, we know in 1900, the last Clarkson died upstairs in a bedroom at Smithy Home."

In pursuit of more ancestral tales, Derek pointed out that Anthony's marital history would be key. Anthony married his first spouse in 1818.

Not long after their union, they expanded the family to include four kids and took up residence in Smithy Home. Anthony's second partner's demise was attributed to Angina, a poignant detail found among the records.

A diary penned by one of Anthonys offspring, James, offers insights into his father's death.

The mother of nine also came across mentions of Ravenseat Farm in the papers. Turning to Derek, she divulged: "The kids would be interested in this because they always say things like, 'Do you think someone has died in this bedroom? ' and I think the answer has to be, 'Yes, loads of people.'"

Our Farm Next Door: Amanda, Clive and Kids returns next Monday at 9pm on Channel 4.
