There are also injury doubts to , Riccardo Calafiori and Jurrien Timber, with Arteta saying it was "uncertain" if the trio will be able to feature against Liverpool after not taking part in training on Friday.

Arsenal will be without club captain Martin Odegaard and defensive duo Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney for the fixture, meaning Arteta could have as many as seven first-team players unavailable on the sidelines.

Arteta will be able to call on David Raya in goal, but in defence, the Gunners boss may have to get creative. Thomas Partey could drop in at right-back which will give Ben White the opportunity to start at centre-back alongside Gabriel. Oleksandr Zinchenko has not returned from injury and is an option to play at left-back should Timber and Calafiori be unavailable.

With Odegaard unavailable and Partey at right-back, Arteta will likely call on Declan Rice and Mikel Merino in midfield. Jorginho is also an option in the middle of the park, while Arteta could also give Ethan Nwaneri a start.

Saka's injury could give Raheem Sterling the chance to start on the right wing, although that role was filled by Gabriel Jesus against Shakhtar. Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard have all succeeded against Liverpool in the past and could be in line to start on Sunday.
