I snubbed Liverpool transfer for Chelsea - one thing left me with no regret

Timo Werner admitted that winning thewith meant his rejection of was a good decision.

However, the 29-year-old opted to join another fellow compatriot in Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge and ended up winning three major honours, including the 2021 Champions League title.

While he was successful in regards to winning silverware, Werner's time in west London saw the striker's overall stock fall heavily.

His inconsistency in front of goal and failure to recreate the same level of goalscoring ability he showed in his native Germany saw Chelsea cut ties with the forward.

The Blues ended up selling him back to Leipzig for a reported cut-price fee of £25m in 2022 after just 23 goals in 89 appearances across all competitions in England.

During his time at Chelsea, but conceded his Champions League triumph meant he didn't rue his decision.

During an interview with the : "The only thing I can say is they have a German manager. I have known him for many years before, because when I was in Stuttgart, he talked about going to Dortmund.

"Then I played not so well, so it was done. When I was in Leipzig, I had the possibility to come to the Premier League.

"Liverpool were also in my thoughts and were a big possibility for me, but at the end I decided for Chelsea and I won the Champions League title last year. It was not the worst decision."

Should he have joined Liverpool, he certainly would have suited Klopp's high-pressing style of play with his runs in behind providing constant targets for their midfield.

However, he would have been without his European triumph with Liverpool's last Champions League title coming in 2019.

Chelsea will be the first team to present Liverpool with a guard of honour following confirmation of their Premier League triumph after their 5-1 win over Spurs on Sunday.
