The mother of has slammed a former detective who came to the family’s aid after he posted on X about his investigation, as she claimed he had “knocked her back a million steps”.
Apprentice bricklayer Jay was on holiday for a music festival in when he vanished on June 17. The remains of the 19-year-old, from Oswaldtwistle, Lanacashire , were finally discovered almost a month later on July 15 near the village of Masca, a few metres from his last known location.
His death sparked emotional scenes back home and , who had vowed to get the family answers at the time of his disappearance, has again spoken out about the case. Jay’s mother, Debbie Duncan, says she wishes he would now “stay out of it”.

She told : “I'm still in bits here, I'm having counselling, and it doesn't get any easier, I couldn't sleep at all last night because after he posted what he did it on his social media just kicked off all the trolls again. What he said has knocked me back a million steps, I just wish he would say what he knows or just stay out of it. We last spoke a few weeks ago briefly because I wanted to clear some things up.
“There was nothing really new, I just wanted to go over some things and he said if I remembered anything to give me a call and that was it. I thought for a second he might have something but now I'm thinking it might just be a PR stunt as all it's done is that it's got all the bloody Tick Tockers back and they have never really stopped which is even sadder.”
The preliminary autopsy pointed to Jay’s cause of death being on account of a "fall or plunge from height", with the Civil Guard confirming his catastrophic injuries included several broken bones. In the video posted to X on Monday, Mr Williams-Thomas said he had an update on his involvement with the case after taking a break from social media.
He said: “I worked very closely with the family and as a result of that, got a lot of information, but also a lot of information from potential witnesses, people involved, people who knew Jay and also the authorities in a roundabout way. One of the things that's very clear is there is a huge amount of misinformation. I've been back and looked through some of the videos I took when I went out there, in relation to my investigation and thought processes whilst the investigation was going on.”
