Man City injury updates on Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne after draw with Arsenal

Manchester City and Arsenal delivered a Premier League spectacle at the Etihad Stadium, with John Stones securing a last-minute equaliser to salvage a point for City in a dramatic turn of events.

Erling Haaland had initially put Pep Guardiola's side in the lead within the first 10 minutes, only for the Gunners to retaliate. Riccardo Calafiori's stunning strike brought the game level before Gabriel Magalhaes tipped the scales in favor of the visitors.

Leandro Trossard was subsequently shown two yellow cards, leaving City to dominate possession after the break. Fortunately for City, substitute Stones managed to keep their unbeaten start to the season intact.

  • Despite the on-pitch excitement, Guardiola left the Etihad Stadium with several injury concerns. Rodri made his first start of the season for City on Sunday but was forced off after just 20 minutes. He appeared to twist his knee in an innocuous clash with Thomas Partey and, following treatment, limped off the pitch.

Post-match, Guardiola confessed that he was worried enough about 'strong' Rodri to substitute him and is now awaiting further assessment of his midfielder ahead of upcoming fixtures against Watford and Newcastle.

"I don't know, I didn't speak to the doctor," Guardiola commented on his midfielder's injury status. "[But] Rodri is strong. He leaves the pitch in this action because he felt something, otherwise Rodri stays there. He's the best holding midfielder in the world, He is a potential Ballon d'Or winner, I would love for him to win."

After being substituted against Inter last week, Kevin De Bruyne was absent from Sunday's match due to ongoing thigh discomfort. There was no sign of De Bruyne disembarking the City bus at the Etihad and he was not listed in the squad for the Arsenal clash. It seems unlikely that he will be played in the upcoming Watford game.
