Cleaning a mattress can be a real headache - but one savvy mum has just the trick to make it easier.

Mattresses are prone to all sorts of stains, whether it's from an accidental bleed during a heavy period that seeps through the sheets or those pesky fake tan streaks that leave their mark. Once your mattress is stained, it might seem like the end of the road since you can't just toss it in the washing machine.

However, one mum has come forward with a "game-changing" mattress cleaning hack that won't break the bank, costing a mere £1.50. Vicki Collis took to Instagram to share her own experience with a stubborn stain on her mattress caused by her daughter's spill. Initially thinking the stain was a lost cause, she stumbled upon a mattress-cleaning hack online and decided to give it a whirl - the results were astonishing.

Her video post was captioned: "The hack you didn't know you needed! Ada spilt her milk in our bed, and whilst trying to dry it we made a huge stain. I thought there was no way this would come out, but came across this mattress-cleaning hack so gave it a go. Wow, is all I can say! Game changer! Works on all stains and is super easy to do!"

All you need to make the hack work is three ingredients - bicarbonate of soda, white vinegar, and liquid soap. You can pick up white vinegar for 35p from Tesco, while bicarb is 65p from the same supermarket, and washing up liquid is 69p, although can be bought for as little as 55p from Asda. This means that in total, you can buy all the items needed for this hack for around £1.50.

In her instructional video, Vicki demonstrates mixing the ingredients into a paste before using a cloth to apply it to stains. The online crowd watched in amazement as the blemishes disappeared rapidly. Vicki advises: "Let it dry and vacuum off the bicarb mixture, and ta da!"

Online commenters were quick to laud the mum's clever trick, with one chiming in: "Nice! That's a great tip to get stains off mattresses," another said, "Great hack," and someone else promised, "I'll be trying this for a New Year refresh!"
