Roman Kemp wipes away tears as Alex Jones breaks down in moving The One Show segment

The One Show's Roman Kemp and Alex Jones were moved to tears in a moving segment on Wednesday night's show.

During the latest instalment, the One show aired a pre-recorded Children In Need segment, where Roman, 31, and Alex, 47, met with several youngsters making up the Children In Need Challenge Squad as they each told their emotional story.

It was upon hearing Tanisha's story, who is 17 and from Slough that the presenters were reduced to tears. Tanisha explained how she was just fourteen when her father, Mario, was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer. For nine months, he underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy, but treatment was unable to save him.

When Mario died, Tanisha and her family found support from Thames Hospice, which BBC Children in Need provides funding for, who helped them come to terms with their loss. As a result of the care she received from Thames Hospice, Tanisha has been inspired to help other young people coming to terms with loss.

After hearing Tanisha's story, Roman was seen wiping away tears while an emotional Alex's voice broke as she said to Tanisha's mother in the audience: "It's a huge loss to you as a family, you must be so proud of her." Alex added: "Losing a parent? I can't imagine that now as a forty-something!"

The Challenge Squad is made up of four inspirational young people who have benefitted from BBC Children in Need funding. They will be championed by Alex, Roman, and more famous faces soon to be announced. In addition to Tanisha, Emily, 21, from North London, Ethan, 16, from Bridgend, and Grace, 19, from Glasgow, make up the Challenge Squad.

Taking to , now X, viewers were also left emotional as they shared their support. One person said, "What amazing children #TheOneShow," with a heart emoji.

It comes as it was announced that Vernon Kay and Rochelle Humes will join the presenting line-up for the BBC Children In Need appeal show.

The pair are set to host alongside Paralympian Ade Adepitan, comedian Mel Giedroyc, presenter Chris Ramsay, and actor Lenny Rush live from MediaCityUK in Salford on Friday, November 15. The three-hour show will be filled with star-studded sketches, musical acts, and surprises from a host of celebrities.

The new additions were announced on Tuesday’s episode of The One Show. They come after Vernon completed his ultramarathon challenge with BBC Radio 2, which raised more than £6 million for last year’s appeal.
