'Sharing a dressing room with Luis Suarez was beautiful - I could've done more to stay at Liverpool'

Liverpool hasn't got many things wrong in the transfer market in recent times. But even when Brendan Rodgers was in charge, some of the signings were simply the right players at the wrong times.

Nuri Sahin was an excellent midfielder but it just didn't work for him during his year at Anfield when he was played out of position, while Iago Aspas is mainly remembered for *that* corner against Chelsea. He has since shown with a very good goalscoring record in Spain that he has much more talent that many give him credit for.

Attacking midfielder Luis Alberto falls into the same category. He was signed by Liverpool before he was ready to make a proper impact and he left without really making much of an impact. At Lazio, though, he has become one of the best in Serie A.

Speaking to Cronache di Spogliatoio, the Spaniard has now spoken about his stint at Liverpool — and suggested he holds some regret at not sticking it out for a little bit longer. He was given the opportunity to stay but chose to leave in search of more regular minutes.

"Even in Liverpool the dressing room was beautiful," he said. "I could have done more: I could have stayed there, but I was young and I wanted to play, so I went."

Alberto was also asked about working with Luis Suarez. "He is a beautiful person," he said. "A phenomenon, I was always with him. I didn’t play much but I learned.

"I saw that the Premier League is fantastic in everything, they have an organization that is the best. We were always at each other’s home. It was impossible to go outside the house without him [Suarez]."

Liverpool.com says: Now at Qatari club Al-Duhail at the back end of his career, things worked out well for Alberto. He didn't make it at Anfield but has had a very good career. He was very well thought of at Lazio, at least until his exit caused controversy. He was under contract until 2027 but ended up forcing his way out at the end of last season.
