is three times more likely to get the boot from in the wake of the fake groping scandal, according to bookies.

Odds for the Welsh opera singer to be sent home in Sunday’s show have been slashed from 16/1 a week ago to 5/1 today. It comes after Wynne, star of the Go Compare ads, admitted to being “heartbroken” that his larking about with pro partner had been misinterpreted by some as sleazy. Clips shared online quickly went viral and caused many to be outraged, despite Katya quickly insisting they’d been joking and she had not felt in any way uncomfortable.

Since then she has been at pains to stress he was not being handsy, as the clip implied, and that they were just just mucking around as they celebrated getting their highest score so far (34) for their tango to Abba’s Money, Money, Money. Despite her making it crystal clear that it was all a big misunderstanding, bookies including Coral say it has had a knock-on effect. Across this week they have taken far more cash from punters who think his time on the programme might be up.

But it’s not all bad news for Wynne, 52 - he can take heart that the trumped-up controversy has not made him the outright favourite to leave. His 5/1 odds still put him behind former footballer , who is favourite for the chop at 11/10, and also Dr , who is 5/2. This weekend Wynne and Katya, 35, will dance a quickstep to Electric Light Orchestra’s much-loved classic Mr Blue Sky. Speaking on It Takes Two, Katya promised it would be full of character and “fun, fun, fun”.

Her words came after she’d launched a furious defence of her partner, telling host Fleur East: “I actually can't bear sitting here watching this man being portrayed as someone he's not and in fact it couldn't be further away from the truth. "I have to make this absolutely clear that this whole incident with the hand and the high five on Saturday night, it was an inside joke between Wynne and I. Was it a silly joke? Yes. Was it a bad joke? Yes."

The Russian pro also admitted she had no idea he was going to perform the tango so well last weekend. “He took it to a whole new level - he was a dancer I’d never met,” she laughed. Wynne said that all the training notes she’d given him across the week had flashed through his head and it all came together at the right moment. “She jumped into my arms after and said ‘where did that come from?’”
