Taylor Swift dealt huge blow after Wembley Stadium gigs as Coldplay make history

Coldplay have made history by selling out a huge number of tour dates at Wembley Stadium - overtaking other big name acts in the process.

The Yellow singers are in the midst of their current Music of the Spheres World Tour which kicked off in March 2022 and continues to be expanded. The band - fronted by Gwyneth Paltrow's ex-husband Chris Martin, 47 - had already sold out eight dates of their tour at Wembley Stadium in London for next summer.

But this week, the group announced they were adding more dates to make their stay at the football stadium 10 nights in total - smashing records previously set by boyband Take That and American pop princess Taylor Swift. Relight My Fire singers Take That had previously held the record for eight nights at the venue, while Taylor matched their record by playing eight dates this month.

On Thursday, Coldplay announced that they would be adding more dates to their London leg, saying in an Instagram post: “Due to phenomenal demand in the presale, ninth and tenth Wembley Stadium shows have just been announced, for 7 & 8 September, 2025." They then went on to explain how fans could get their hands on tickets today (Friday) - and the additional dates swiftly sold out.

Many fans have been left disappointed, however, as the tickets sold out quickly while virtual queues stretched out for hours. One fan slammed the band online, writing in response to their Instagram post: "So 4 hours in the queue after getting in the waiting room at 8:30 and joining the queue at 9am and nothing - SOLD OUT for the date I queued for or I can queue again for another date where the queue is 150k plus - this is absolutely ridiculous."

They continued: "This after queuing yesterday exactly the same for hours to get thrown out once I got a seated ticket up in the gods the furthest away from the stage. Absolutely ridiculous. I have been going to concerts regularly for 31 years and it feels impossible to get tickets for anything now. It’s so disheartening especially when you are just doing the same thing as everyone else. something needs to change."

Coldplay's 2025 dates at Wembley Stadium will see them perform on the 22, 23, 26, 27, 30 and 31 of August and the 3, 4, 7 and 8 September - creating a record-smashing 10 nights for the group at the venue. The band could, however, argue that they have actually played 16 dates at the venue as they already played the 12, 13, 16, 17, 20 and 21 August in 2022 as part of the same tour.

The new batch of 10 dates is due to see the Music of the Spheres World Tour reach a definitive climax having started on 18 March 2022 in Costa Rica. Taylor Swift played eight dates at Wembley this summer with her ongoing Eras World Tour while Take That played eight dates in 2011 as part of their Progress Tour. Taylor maintains her crown for having the most dates by a solo artist, and by an international artist at the iconic venue.
