Top Tech: Best smartwatches we rate from Amazon, FitBit and £17 Samsung Galaxy deal

Send Push

We're back with the second edition of our Mirror Top Tech series, where we round up the best deals as chosen by our team of shopping, tech and TV experts. Twice a week we share the deals we feel are worth your money (that we have an eye on for ourselves), where to buy it, and how to cut the price - and this week our Tech Commerce Content Editor has picked the best from FitBit, Amazon and Samsung.

Smartwatches have become one of the most sought-after gadgets on tech shoppers' lists, with many looking for wearable accessories to help their fitness goals, track their movements, or simply get the best of their smartphone from the ease of their wrist.

With the 5G connectivity, wireless listening, and even making calls without a smartphone in sight can come at a hefty cost, as Apple's swanky new Watch Series 10 and the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra prove. They're one of the best you can buy, but simply not in everyone's budget, which is why we've picked out three budget options.

Samsung's newest Galaxy Ultra model can withstand immense heat, and water pressure and has quick speeds thanks to its 3nm processor, and is available for £524 from the Samsung Store. My next picks are for those with less to spend, starting from only £14 I have found ways to save money, without scrimping on the most important features.

Starting with another Samsung model because it is possible to pick up one of its quality smartwatch models for a more affordable price. The Galaxy Watch 7 to be exact, which I've always rated for its accurate tracking features, can be split to only £14.06 per month - this price includes data too so it works out at £7 for the watch per month and £7.06 for the 1GB of data...plenty for a smartwatch.

If that price has caught your attention you'll want to head over to O2 and its 48-month device plan. You can pair the 4G 32GB model with a 24-month data plan too - making it that extra bit more convenient.

When it comes to smartwatches one brand may come to mind first...Fitbit. Some could even go as far as calling it the 'OG' of the fitness tracking world, from their original step counting and exercise tracking days to new models with Android and iOS compatibility - two main reasons why I've put the Fitbit Inspire 3 second on the list.

Now available for £84, it's less than £100 price alone is something to attract many shoppers. Like many who are looking for simple, yet accurate tracking. As one shopper said: "I set a target of 10000 steps a day and love how easy it is to check my progress. The weekly record is great for checking fitness levels and encourages me to improve."

Another shopper said: "I bought this to replace a Fitbit Charge that had stopped holding the battery. I love the Inspire 3, as it's very neat, and does everything you need it to. And great value for money.

"The only thing that is a bit frustrating is that you have to tap the face for the time, it's not reactive to your movements." Other users did however say they struggled with a 'frustrating connection with some saying it dropped 'off their Google phone'.

I've seen these gadgets in person and it's worth saying this is a good pick for accurate fitness tracking but basic connectivity with smartphones. At the end of the day, at £84, it's not designed to work like an Apple Watch or Galaxy Watch 7, so its app notifications and sync is slower.

Last on my list is one that may be surprising to some, Amazon's Jugeman Smartwatch. Now, a disclaimer this is £24 so if you're looking for a high-end quality model then this won't be for you, but if you have a small budget and need something basic, this is it. You know the saying, you get what you pay for.

The 1.96-inch device has fitness tracking, a step counter, a sleep monitor, and more than 100 sports listed in its activity tracker. There's also a Bluetooth calling feature, so if your phone is in your pocket you'll be able to call through the watch - similar to how you would use a pair of wireless headphones.

It's backed by Amazon too, as one of its best-selling products - an official 'best-seller' - 4,000 have been bought this month alone, where it's racked up 1,067 five-star reviews from shoppers. As someone surrounded by the world of shopping it's certainly popular, however, there are some basic features I'd urge consumers to look closely at (what you get for £24).

For instance, the Jugeman Smartwatch does not specify what type of Bluetooth connection it has, a detail some shoppers may not be happy with. Looking at this listing it means I can't be for sure how reliable the connectivity will be.

Although brands including the new Apple Watch Series 10 and Google Pixel Watch 3 will have quality 5G connectivity, Bluetooth, and fast processors to make synching up with your Android or iOS smartphones seamless. Of course, Samsung's newest Galaxy Watch 7 is another reputable model too, which is why it's at the top of my list, and O2's deal will let you split the hefty cost more affordably.

Amazons' Prime Big Deal Days sale is also around the corner, and smartwatches are thought to be a popular find ahead of Black Friday and Christmas shopping, so you may want to save this article for then too. If you're on the look for inspiration ahead of Amazon's next big sale event, then our sister column Prime Finds includes advice and picks from our Mirror shopping team.
