Thomas Tuchel has been announced as the new manager of England, ending the FA's three month search for a new head coach following Gareth Southgate's resignation in July - but do you think the new England manager will see more success than his predecessor?
After days of rumours, it was announced this Wednesday, 16 October, that Thomas Tuchel had signed an 18 month contract which will see the former Bayern Munich and Chelsea boss guide the Three Lions through the next World Cup in 2026.
During a press conference announcing Tuchel's signing, FA CEO Mark Bullingham said approximately ten candidates were interviewed for the job but stopped short of naming exactly who, labelling the process 'confidential'.
However, several names were rumoured to be in with a chance of landing the job, including Pep Guardiola, Graham Potter and, caretaker manager Lee Carsley.
In his first statement since taking the helm, Tuchel said: "I am very proud to have been given the honour of leading the England team. I have long felt a personal connection to the game in this country, and it has given me some incredible moments already. To have the chance to represent England is a huge privilege, and the opportunity to work with this special and talented group of players is very exciting.
If you can't see the poll, .
"Working closely with Anthony as my assistant coach, we will do everything we can to make England successful and the supporters proud."
The German manager was also full of praise for Gareth Southgate in his first interview since taking the job: "Gareth and the FA did a fantastic job in regards to stability. It is outstanding. The under-21s win titles, the younger teams want to win titles, the women's team win titles.
"I will have a different schedule than in club football. We will build on everything that Gareth built and the FA built to hopefully get it over the line."
Over his 8 years as England manager, Southgate was hailed as 'extraordinary' by the FA after guiding the Three Lions through their most successful period in knockout competitions, reaching two successive European finals, alongside a World Cup semi-final and quarter-final.
However, Southgate fell short of lifting a major trophy, losing out to Spain in 2024 and Italy in 2021.
Tuchel, meanwhile, comes into the England role with no shortage of silverware, lifting trophies in the Champions League, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Supercup and more.
What do you think? Will Thomas Tuchel see more success with England than Gareth Southgate did? and .
