The Narendra Modi government at the Center has taken a big decision in the interest of the poor people of the country before Diwali. The Central Government has now decided to continue the supply of free fortified rice from July 2024 to December 2028 under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKAY) and other welfare schemes. The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a Diwali gift to the poor people of the country by approving this.

The supply of free fortified rice will continue from July 2024 to December 2028

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has given this information after the meeting of the Union Cabinet. Ashwini Vaishnav informed that the Union Cabinet has now approved the continuation of the supply of free fortified rice under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKAY) and other welfare schemes from July 2024 to December, 2028. The total financial impact on the government will be Rs 17,082 crore.

PM Narendra Modi has also given information about this scheme. He said that the decision to continue the supply of nutritious rice under welfare schemes has been taken by the Central Government keeping in mind the nutritional security of the poor. PM Modi also said that in this rice, micronutrient-rich rice kernel (FRK) is mixed with regular rice under the standards set by the food regulator FSSAI.
