Social Media Ban: Social media may be banned for children under 16 years of age, government is planning..

The Australian government has proposed a ban on social media for children under 16, which Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced as a "world-first" move. The law could come into effect by the end of next year.

Australia is testing an age-certification system to prevent children from accessing social media platforms. Under this system, identification methods such as biometrics or government identification are being used. If this happens, it will be the first country in the world to plan to implement a ban through such an age verification system.

Albanese said that "social media is harming our children and I am announcing a ban." He particularly mentioned the negative effects of harmful content related to girls and anti-women content targeted at boys.

This proposal could become the toughest law in the world, with no exemption for parental consent and no privileges for existing accounts. It will be the responsibility of social media platforms to take appropriate steps to enforce this ban.
