Recently, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar was on a visit to Maldives. During the same visit, Maldives had agreed to adopt India's most successful digital technology UPI. India and Maldives had signed an agreement to start UPI.
What is UPI
Let us tell you that UPI is a real-time payment system. A facility like UPI for digital payment allows you to transfer money easily from home. For this, you need UPI-supporting apps like Paytm, PhonePe, Bhim, GooglePay, etc. The special thing is that UPI allows you to transfer money even if you have only one piece of information from the scanner, mobile number, or UPI ID.
UPI facility was started in India in the year 2016
The UPI payment system was started in the year 2016. UPI system is operated by the National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI).
