One of the most versatile actors in Indian cinema Rajkummar Rao started his career with low-budget successes like Love Sex Aur Dhokha, Ragini MMS and followed them up with other acclaimed films like Gangs of Wasseypur 2, Shaitan and Shahid which put him on the map and won him a National Film Award for Best Actor.
After a number of mid-budget successes like Kai Po Che, Queen, Bareilly Ki Barfi and Newton Rajkummar Rao delivered his first major super hit in Stree in 2018.
Universally acclaimed film became his first Rs 100 crore success. However, post Stree while Rajkummar the actor continued to receive all the accolades, Rajkummar the star suffered majorly at the box office with as many as 10 flops and disasters in a row.
These included Bheed, HIT: The First Case, Badhaai Do, Roohi, Shimla Mirchi, Made in China, Judgementall Hai Kya, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, 5 Weddings and Love Sonia.

But, the year 2024 turned out to be a game changer for Rajkummar Rao the star. At a time when some of the biggest films like Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Maidaan bombed at the box office, Rajkummar Rao’s biographical drama Srikanth turned out to be a success.
The film directed by Tushar Hiranandani made Rs 50.05 crore in India and Rs 62.92 crore worldwide.
His next release was Mr & Mrs Mahi which took a fair opening in comparison to its budget and eventually made Rs 36.28 crore in India and Rs 51.96 crore at the worldwide box office.
And his third release of the year was Stree 2 which shattered all records for a Hindi film and became the all-time blockbuster earning Rs 585 crore in India and Rs 837 crore at the worldwide box office.
The horror-comedy is currently the highest grossing film in Hindi in India and second biggest Bollywood grosser domestically behind Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan.
With the mega blockbuster success of Stree 2 and the fair biz of his previous two films especially Srikanth, the year 2024 may change things substantially for Rajkummar Rao.
After being one of the most versatile actors of Indian cinema for 14 years, he may finally catapult himself into being a legit box office star with his upcoming Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video.

Directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video is a comedy film about a couple who decides to record the first night of their married life only to find out in the morning that the tape has been stolen.
The trailer of the film received love from the audience and the film may now get a fair opening and has a chance of taking down Alia Bhatt’s Jigra on day one.
If Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video takes a good opening at the box office, it will prove Rajkummar’s box office pull with three hits and four good openings in a single year.
And it truly seems like Rajkummar Rao is ready to enter a new league of stars as his next release is a mass action entertainer Maalik which may further establish his box office stardom.

Besides Rajkummar Rao, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video also stars Triptii Dimri, Mallika Sherawat, Vijay Raaz, Archana Puran Singh and Tiku Talsania among others.
The film is now playing in theatres alongside Alia Bhatt’s Jigra and Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan’s Vettaiyan.
