"Set a goal to provide 200 trawlers to our fishermen within five years": Amit Shah at Maritime Week

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], October 27 (ANI): Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Monday said that the Central Government aims to provide at least 200 deep-sea trawlers to fishermen across coastal states within the next five years.
He said trawlers will be able to stay at sea for 25 days and transport up to 20 tonnes of fish.
Addressing the inauguration of the fourth India Maritime Week-2025 in Mumbai, Amit Shah said, "... I have also spoken with the Chief Ministers of Odisha, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. We, the GoI, the Central Government, the Cooperatives, and the Fisheries Department, have set a goal to provide at least 200 such trawlers to our fishing brothers within five years, and on a cooperative basis. These trawlers will be able to stay in the deep sea for 25 days. They will be able to transport up to 20 tonnes of fish and bring them here."
Shah said that the government's new initiative marks a beginning for the poor fishermen who work for their livelihood along the 11,099-kilometre-long coastline.

"A large vessel will also be placed between them, which will coordinate the work and transport the fish from the middle to the shore. I have just seen that convenient accommodation and food arrangements have also been made inside. This scheme is a beginning for the poor fishermen who work for their livelihood along our 11,099-kilometre-long coastline. This is going to become a major project in the coming days," he said.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in the presence of Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Shantanu Thakur, inaugurated 'India Maritime Week - 2025' in Mumbai today.
Deputy CMs Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde, Goa CM Pramod Sawant, Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi and Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel also attended the event.
The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) is hosting the India Maritime Week 2025 (IMW 2025) from October 27 to 31 at NESCO Grounds, Mumbai. (ANI)
