The Gig Workers Association (GigWA) has written to ride sharing company BluSmart seeking immediate compensation equivalent to three months’ income to all affected drivers following the abrupt suspension of operations by the Gurgaon-based company.
This, it said, will ensure financial stability to its platform workers during this period of uncertainty.
“This unexpected halt has left thousands of drivers without income or clarity about their employment status,” it said in its letter to BluSmart written on Thursday.
The GigWA also sought immediate disbursal of arrears including earned income and weekly incentive of Rs 8000.
“Offer alternative employment opportunities or facilitate job placements for the displaced drivers to mitigate the impact on their livelihood,” it said, urging ride-sharing company to even take back the vehicle charger and return Rs 5000 to each driver for the cost of the charges deducted from their income.
BluSmart, the electric ride-hailing service, has halted operations following an ongoing investigation by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) into Gensol Engineering, BluSmart's financial backer, over alleged fund misappropriation.
