IndiGo's Dibrugarh-Guwahati flight carrying Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma diverted to Agartala due to bad weather

An IndiGo flight from Dibrugarh to Guwahati, that had Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma onboard, was diverted to Agartala due to bad weather, the CMO said on Sunday.

The incident comes only a week after a Dibrugarh bound flight from Guwahati had ‘misapproached' the runway at LGBI Airport during its landing. It had immediately taken off again, before finally touching down safely 15-20 minutes later in its second attempt.

On that flight, state cabinet minister Bimal Borah was among the passengers. He had said they panicked as it was a ‘rough landing' in its first attempt.

"The flight initially landed with just the rear wheels of the aircraft touching the runway. It was a very rough landing and immediately the pilot took off again. We were clueless and I asked the air hostess what happened. I was told it was a ‘misapproach,'" Borah said.

The minister added that he thought some other flight might have arrived on the runway and so their flight denied permission to land.

"Our flight landed after around 20 minutes again and during that time it was probably hovering above the Guwahati sky," he said. Borah said the pilot had announced that the second attempt to land will be after 10 minutes. "Passengers panicked, but finally it was a safe landing," Borah said.

"Whenever the pilot feels there is some misapproach, he can take a go-around before making a second landing attempt," an IndiGo spokesperson had said. The official, however, said that go-around was a ‘routine' affair.
