Kantara: Chapter 1, the much-anticipated prequel to the 2022 blockbuster, has finally been released in theatres, and it will make its digital debut after that. Directed, co-written, and headlined by Rishab Shetty, the film has already garnered praise for its immersive storytelling and powerful performances, making fans eager to know when they can stream it online.

OTT Platform and Release Date
Reports from Pinkvilla indicate that Amazon Prime Video has secured the digital rights for Kantara: Chapter 1, in a deal reportedly worth Rs 125 crore. This makes it one of the highest-paid Kannada films for post-theatrical streaming, second only to KGF 2. The platform is expected to release the film in multiple languages, including Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi, promising a pan-India OTT experience.

According to OTT Play, the film is likely to stream on Amazon Prime Video from October 30, 2025, approximately four weeks after its theatrical premiere. While the Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam versions will be available from day one, the Hindi-dubbed version may follow after eight weeks. However, official confirmation from the makers is still awaited.

Story and Cast
Kantara: Chapter 1 delves into the mystical origins of a legendary protector in ancient Karnataka, blending folklore with history. Rishab Shetty plays Berme, a warrior caught between human conflicts and divine forces, while Rukmini Vasanth portrays Kanakavathi, adding emotional depth to the narrative. Veteran actors like Jayaram and Gulshan Devaiah further strengthen the ensemble cast, which also includes Pramod Shetty, Prakash Thuminad, and the late Rakesh Poojary.

Set during the Kadamba dynasty, the film explores the early roots of the Daiva traditions, particularly the mythic figures Panjurli Daiva and Guliga Daiva, central to the Kantara universe. Produced by Hombale Films, the epic was shot over 250 days with thousands of cast and crew members, making it a cinematic spectacle designed for the big screen.

Early Reception
Critics and audiences have praised Rishab Shetty’s dual role as director and lead actor. Social media reactions describe his performance as immersive, while his direction has been noted for its intensity and vision. Supporting actors have also been lauded for bringing grounded performances, and viewers recommend experiencing the film in its original Kannada version to appreciate its cultural nuances fully.
