Prime Minister Narendra Modi took part in a high-profile roundtable with leading figures in the global technology industry during his visit to New York, the Ministry of External affairs said in a release on Monday.
The roundtable was anchored by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), School of Engineering, and focused on pivotal areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Quantum Computing, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, IT, and Semiconductor technologies.
The gathering of 15 tech leaders included prominent names Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen and IBM CEO Arvind Krishna and Noubar Afeyan, the chairman of Moderna, among others.
The CEO Roundtable was also attended by NVIDIA Founder and CEO, Jensen Huang and Accenture CEO Julie Sweet.
In a 'fruitful' session, the Prime Minister and industry CEOs discussed the transformative power of technology in enhancing human development globally, including its positive impact on India.
During his address, Prime Minister Modi expressed his appreciation for MIT’s efforts in facilitating such collaborative events. He underscored the role of initiatives like the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and the Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (ICET) in fostering innovation and growth.
He further reiterated his commitment to making India the world’s third-largest economy, stressing that the nation's growth trajectory will be heavily influenced by technological collaboration and innovation.
"They can co-develop, co-design, and co-produce in India for the world, harnessing the opportunities from India's economic and technological growth," the government said.
Speaking on India's burgeoning technology landscape, PM Modi emphasized his government’s focus on expanding the biotech and semiconductor sectors. He highlighted India's commitment to developing a global semiconductor hub, driven by progressive policies and initiatives like BIO E3, which is set to position India as a major biotech powerhouse.
Additionally, he spoke on India's AI policies, noting that they are designed with an ethical and inclusive approach, promoting “AI for All.”
The CEOs in attendance expressed their strong interest in collaborating with India, lauding the country’s supportive policies and status as an emerging technology hub.
