Mumbai Airport to shut for 6 hours on May 9

Send Push
Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) will remain closed for six hours on 9 May for essential runway maintenance work. The airport operator, Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL), made the announcement on Saturday.

The planned shutdown will take place between 11 am and 5 pm, during which time both runways – 09/27 and 14/32 – will be non-operational, MIAL said.

Why the closure?

This yearly pre-monsoon maintenance is done to keep the airport's runways in good condition. It helps prevent problems like waterlogging and ensures flights can land and take off safely during the rainy season.

Specialist teams will check the runway surfaces for damage or wear and carry out any needed repairs.

Airlines informed in advance

MIAL added that a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) was issued six months ago to inform all airlines and airport teams in advance. This has allowed airlines to adjust their flight schedules accordingly.

"The annual maintenance is important to protect the airport's infrastructure and keep it in top condition ahead of the monsoon," MIAL said.
