Urvil Patel joins CSK as injury replacement for Vansh Bedi

Chennai Super Kings on Monday announced the signing of Urvil Patel to replace Vansh Bedi, who has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament due to a ligament tear in the left ankle.

Patel is a wicketkeeper batter from from Gujarat. He has scored the joint-fastest T20 century by an Indian when he smashed a century off just 28 balls against Tripura in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He was also a part of the Gujarat Titans in the 2023 edition of the league.

Patel hails from Mehsana, Baroda. He made his debut for Baroda in 2018 in a T20 match against Mumbai in Rajkot. In the same year, he played List A cricket as well. However, it took him six more years to play first-class cricket. He made his debut in the previous season of Ranji Trophy.

He has played 47 T20 games with 1162 runs under his name. He strikes at 170.4 and has two centuries in the format. He has also played 22 List A matches with an average of 44 and a strike rate of 120. Additionally, the top order batter has featured in 10 First Class games with a highest score of 140.

He will now join CSK for his base price of INR 30 Lakh. The team has already been knocked out of this season after winning just two of their 11 matches. Earlier, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and Gurjapneet Singh were also injured. They were replaced by 17-year-old Ayush Mhtre and Dewald Brevis, respectively.
