The water level in the Yamuna River at Delhi's Old Railway Bridge was at 207.33 metres at 7 am on Friday, a day after reaching the season's highest at 207.48 metres. According to the data, the level stood at 207.35 metres at 6 am.
Old Railway Bridge is the flood-forecasting station for Delhi.
Officials say that the water level is likely to go down further during the day. The flooded river has affected low-lying areas in the past few day, submerging homes, displacing people and affecting businesses.
The district authorities have cautioned people against venturing out into the swollen river for swimming, boating or recreational purposes.
Ghaziabad flooded
A village was affected in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad as water from the Hathnikund barrage in Haryana caused the Yamuna river to swell, officials said on Thursday. As many as 55 families had to be recued.
The rescued families are from Badarpur village, situated on the banks of the Yamuna in the Loni sub-division, and were evacuated with the help of a National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team deployed in the area, Additional District Magistrate (Finance) Saurabh Bhatt told PTI.
"Arrangements for food, including milk for infants, have been made for the rescued families," Bhatt said, adding that camps have been set up for villagers.
He added that their priority is to protect the Yamuna embankment to prevent the floodwaters from impacting more villages.
