Radha Ashtami Vrat Rules: The festival of Radha Ashtami is considered to be a very sacred and revered day in Hinduism. This day is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna's exclusive devotee and love embodiment, Shri Radha Rani. Special festivals and tableaux are organized on this day, especially at pilgrimage sites like Brajbhoomi, Mathura, and Vrindavan. Devotees observe fast, perform kirtan-bhajans, and worship Radha Rani methodically and receive her blessings. It is believed that by observing fast on this day, love, harmony, happiness, and peace reside in life.

However, there are some rules of worship and fasting on the day of Radha Ashtami, which are considered very important to follow. If the worship is not done in the right way or some mistakes are made, the result of the worship can be hindered. Therefore, it is important to know what should be done on this holy occasion and what should be avoided, so that the worship done with devotion can be completely fruitful.

What to do on Radha Ashtami

On Radha Ashtami, wake up early in the morning and take a bath with pure water. After bathing, wear clean and neat clothes so that both the mind and the body remain pure. Only then, take a pledge for fasting and worship.

It is considered mandatory to follow the celibacy rule throughout the day. This means that you should remain restrained and pure not only physically, but also mentally.

On this day, offer only fresh and holy things like fresh fruits, milk, milk-based prasad, flowers, etc. to Radha Rani as bhog. Do not offer old or semi-cooked things.

After the puja, recite or listen to the story of Radha Ashtami fast. This increases the glory and righteousness of the fast and gives spiritual peace to the mind.

The time to break the fast is special. The fast should be broken at an auspicious time so that the fruits of the puja are fully obtained. Do not hurry and respect the time.

While breaking the fast, take the same prasad which was offered to Radha Rani in the puja. This ensures the completeness of the worship.

Donate food, clothes, or money to the needy before breaking the fast. Apart from this, cow service is also considered very auspicious. This increases virtue and ensures the success of the fast.

After breaking the fast, it is necessary to take the blessings of the elders or seniors of the house. Their blessings bring happiness, peace, and prosperity in your life.

What not to do on the day of Radha Ashtami Vrat

Whatever bhog is to be offered to Radha Rani in the puja should be completely pure and without any touch. After making the bhog, tasting it or making it impure in any way is prohibited.

Sleeping during the day on the day of the fast is considered inappropriate from a religious point of view. This hinders the penance of the fast, and its results may be reduced.

On this auspicious day, cutting body parts like hair, nails, or beard is prohibited. It is considered a symbol of impurity, so it should be avoided.

Avoid wearing black or very dark colored clothes on this day. Radha Rani loves red and yellow colors, so wearing clothes of these colors is considered auspicious.

Women should keep their hair tied and cover their heads with a chunari while worshiping. This is a symbol of devotion and purity. Men should also keep a handkerchief or cloth on their heads.

Washing hair is considered forbidden during Radha Ashtami. If there is a need to wash hair, then this work should be done before Ashtami begins.
