Sawan Somwar 2025: The month of Sawan is considered to be a special time for the worship of Lord Shiva. The worship done this month will be fruitful soon. Devotees observe the Monday fast in this month for purposes such as getting the blessings of Shiva-Parvati, wishing for a suitable life partner, marital happiness, mental peace, freedom from diseases, and spiritual progress. For those who are observing this fast for the first time, it is very important to follow some religious rules and precautions, so that the full benefit of the fast can be obtained.

Rules of Sawan Monday Fast
The fasting person should wake up in Brahmamuhurta, take a bath, and wear clean clothes.
After purifying himself, sit in the temple or Shivalaya of the house and take a vow of fasting with the chanting of the mantra "Om Namah Shivaya".
Also, decide whether you will observe the Monday fast for the entire Sawan or keep the fast only on a particular Monday.
During the worship, anoint the Shivling with Panchamrit (milk, curd, ghee, honey, pure water).
After this, offer Belpatra, Dhatura, Shamipatra, white flowers, and ash, etc.
Recite "Mahamrityunjaya Mantra", "Om Namah Shivaya", or "Shiv Chalisa" to praise Lord Shiva.
Rudrabhishek and Rudrashtak Paath are considered to be especially virtuous on this day.
If there is a delay in the marriage of a girl, then offer rose flowers to Shiva-Parvati and chant the mantra "Om Sham Shankaray Namah". Offering water in the Shiva temple on Monday, donating black sesame seeds, and wearing white clothes are also considered auspicious.
Diet-related rules during fasting
The fasting person should eat fruits throughout the day, milk, sago, peanuts, or water chestnut flour.
Stay away from grains, salt, and tamasic food.
If waterless fasting is difficult, then coconut water or normal water can be consumed.
Maintain purity of mind, speech, and action throughout the day; do not be bitter, lie, or angry with anyone.
Spend as much time as possible in chanting Shiva mantras, meditation, and Bhajans.
Completion of the fast and breaking it

On Monday evening, do the Aarti of Lord Shiva and listen to the Vrat Katha.
After the worship, offer fruits, kheer, or fruit diet to God and accept it as prasad.
Break the fast the next day after sunrise.
