Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav visited the under-construction Ambedkar Dham in Jaurasi, Gwalior, amid the ongoing controversy around the Ambedkar statue. He reviewed the progress of the project, which is being built at a cost of around ₹20 crore.

During his visit, CM Yadav praised the BJP for giving true respect to BR Ambedkar and accused the Congress of using Ambedkar’s name only for vote-bank politics. Taking a jibe at Congress, he said the party is not really fasting but rather looking for ways to regain votes.

Yadav said that the BJP has always honored Ambedkar’s contribution to society by celebrating his birth and death anniversaries every year. He mentioned that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, memorials were built at all five key places associated with Ambedkar's life, including the first memorial in Mhow, where an annual Ambedkar Mahakumbh is also held.

CM Yadav strongly criticises Congress

The CM also criticised Congress, alleging that the party has always disrespected Ambedkar, even during his lifetime. He further said that when Ambedkar contested elections, Congress worked hard to defeat him.

According to him, even after his death, the Congress government refused to provide space in Delhi for his cremation and charged his wife for transportation of the body.

CM Yadav claimed that the BJP was the first to put up Ambedkar’s portrait in Parliament, which was never done during Congress rule. He also slammed the Congress for imposing the Emergency in 1975 and accused them of murdering the Constitution.

CM to perform Bhoomi Poojan in Gwalior on July 5

Highlighting the BJP government’s efforts, he said initiatives like the Ambedkar Wildlife Sanctuary, Buddha University, scholarships based on Ambedkar’s legacy, and various schemes for students show the party’s commitment to his ideals.

He announced he will return to Gwalior on July 5 to perform the bhoomi-pujan (foundation ritual) for the second phase of Ambedkar Dham. He also acknowledged the support of senior BJP leaders including Union Ministers Jyotiraditya Scindia and Narendra Singh Tomar in making the memorial grand and meaningful.

Ending his statement, CM Yadav asked Congress why they never allowed such a memorial to be built earlier and why they never apologized for the injustices done to Ambedkar. He said Congress is now doing political drama for votes and that the people can see through their tactics.
