The 25-year-old man, who had been on the run for almost a month after allegedly raping an air hostess in the Intensive Care Unit of a Gurugram hospital, was arrested on Friday.
The arrest was made possible by a Special Investigation Team (SIT), supported by eight crack teams, who analyzed footage from 800 CCTV cameras to track down the accused, Deepak. He hails from the village of Badhauli in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district.
Police reportedly scrutinized footage from 800 CCTV cameras installed at the hospital. Prior to committing the heinous crime, Deepak had worked as a technician there for five months.
A 46-year-old flight attendant has reported being sexually assaulted while receiving critical care on ventilator support in Medanta hospital's ICU in Gurugram on April 6, according to police.
The victim stated she was unable to defend herself due to her compromised physical condition and claimed that two nurses witnessed the incident but failed to intervene.
The assault only came to light on April 13 when the woman, after being discharged, informed her husband about the incident. He immediately contacted authorities, resulting in a case being registered at Sadar Police Station the following day.
Medanta hospital issued a statement on April 15 acknowledging the allegations and confirming their full cooperation with the ongoing investigation.
According to reports, the woman had been transferred to Medanta on April 5 for emergency treatment that included ventilator support for over a week. The alleged perpetrator is reported to be a ward staff member at the facility.
