Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The Congress party has announced a protest on July 19, accusing the state government of being involved in a massive scam involving fake Samagra IDs that has robbed countless families of their welfare benefits—and potentially compromised the electoral system.
Former minister Sajjan Verma said the Madhya Pradesh government recently found more than 7.21 lakh fake Samagra IDs in the state and 6.63 lakh of them were from Indore alone, across all 22 city zones.
This isn’t just clerical error or mismanagement. This is a planned scam running into crores, and it’s the poor who are paying the price, Verma said.
He alleged that these fake IDs were used not just to wrongfully claim rations, pensions, health benefits, and scholarships, but also to manipulate voter rolls by adding fake voters.
At the same time, Verma said, many genuine beneficiaries—especially from low-income families—have had their valid Samagra IDs wrongly cancelled, leaving them cut off from government schemes.

Verma also cited similar patterns in other states like Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Bihar, calling the issue a nationwide problem that must be addressed at the highest level. Congress leaders want the district administration to investigate how the fake IDs were created and file police cases (FIRs) against those responsible.
He said that Indore officials had previously told the High Court that they removed over 2.6 lakh fake voters from electoral rolls, raising further concerns over fair election processes.
Other Congress leaders, including Dilip Kaushal and Chintu Chouksey, said they will be submitting formal complaints to senior officials and are demanding criminal cases (FIRs) be filed against those responsible for generating or facilitating fake IDs.
The Congress said that its rally on July 19 will aim to raise public awareness about how the scam has harmed both social welfare and democracy.
