Alot (Madhya Pradesh): A Congress councillor and a contractor clashed over drain construction work in Alot on Monday. The incident occurred at the construction site near HDFC Bank. Contractor Sharad Maheshwari claims that Congress councillor Amit Chaudhary had been demanding a commission for several days. When Maheshwari refused to pay, he alleged that Chaudhary and his associates attacked him.
Maheshwari stated that he arrived at the site after receiving a call from Municipal Council engineer. Upon his arrival, he was confronted and beaten by Chaudhary and his associates.
He reported that when he attempted to go to the police station to file a complaint, they stopped him again and assaulted him.
In contrast, councillor Amit Chaudhary claims that the contractor had not been working for days, causing issues for residents. He mentioned that the dug-up drain in front of Ward 13 resident Lokesh Joshi's house was obstructing access, especially when Joshi's mother needed to go to the hospital.
Chaudhary alleges that when he approached Maheshwari to discuss the matter, he was met with abuse and violence.
Both parties have lodged complaints at Alot police station, which include names of Congress leaders Nagesh Kharol, Feroz Khan and Rahul Sargara. Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage and conducting medical checkups for both parties involved, said official.
