Mumbai: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers allegedly assaulted non-Marathi-speaking communities in Mumbai and Pune even as chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has maintained that though the state government was in favour of use of Marathi language, "no one should take law in their hands".
Here is a list of five incidents that have occurred in Mumbai and Pune, where MNS workers allegedly assaulted individuals from non-Marathi-speaking communities for not speaking Marathi. These incidents involve the workers reportedly engaging in mob attacks and physical confrontations.

Maharashtra Bank's Lonavala branch manager had to face the ire of MNS workers who insisted on the mandatory usage of Marathi in all daily business transactions. One of the workers was heard arguing, "Marathi is the official language of the state. If you can't speak in Marathi, how will customers complete their transactions? If all of your employees speak in Hindi, how will the customers understand? Also, all the boards in the bank are in English. How will common people understand? 99 percent of people here speak Marathi."

Another Bank of Maharashtra manager in Ambernath was targetted over the issue of the Marathi language. The dispute arose when the bank manager, who did not speak Marathi, engaged in a heated argument with MNS workers. This led to an aggressive protest inside the bank, where party members demanded that the manager use Marathi in his dealings.

The Powai Police have registered an FIR against four MNS workers for allegedly assaulting a non-Marathi-speaking security guard. The accused, Ajinkya, Vijay Nikam, Sanjay Mule, and Mahesh Giram, are all associated with MNS. According to the Powai police, the incident occurred on Monday night at the L&T building in Powai when the security guard had an argument with a local Marathi-speaking individual.
