New Delhi: More than 80 hours after a Border Security Force (BSF) constable was apprehended by Pakistani forces for inadvertently crossing the international border in Punjab's Firozpur sector, efforts to secure his release have so far failed. Despite three rounds of flag meetings between Indian and Pakistani officials, the jawan remains in the custody of the Pakistan Rangers, according to a report by Dainik Bhasker.

The incident took place on April 23, when Constable PK Singh from the 182nd Battalion reportedly crossed the border accidentally while performing duties near farmlands. As per reports, the jawan had moved forward to rest under a shady area when he unknowingly strayed across the border and was immediately detained by Pakistani troops.

Pakistan Denies Knowledge of Jawan's Whereabouts

Since the arrest, the BSF has made several attempts to secure the soldier's return. However, Pakistani authorities have so far refused to hand him over, claiming they have "no information" about his location.
Officials said that three flag meetings have already taken place but have not yielded any breakthrough.

A senior official told Dainik Bhaskar that the BSF has now requested another field commander-level meeting to push for the soldier's release.

In the meantime, all BSF units posted along the India-Pakistan border have been placed on high alert. The Director General of BSF has also briefed the Union Home Secretary regarding the situation and the measures being taken to ensure Constable Singh’s safe return.

Family Appeals for Immediate Release

Constable Singh hails from West Bengal, and his family is said to be under immense distress since they learned about his arrest. His father has appealed to the Indian government for urgent action to bring his son back safely.

Officials assured the family that diplomatic and military channels are being actively pursued and that pressure is being mounted on the Pakistan Rangers to expedite the soldier's release.

The standoff comes amid heightened India-Pakistan tensions following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, with the Centre accusing Islamabad of encouraging cross-border terrorism.
