What are the rules regarding citizenship?

There are some laws and eligibility regarding citizenship in India. Any person can get citizenship in five ways. Citizenship is obtained by birth, citizenship by descent, citizenship by registration, citizenship by naturalization and by including the area. All people born in India after 26 January 1950 are Indian citizens.

Apart from this, people born after 1 July 1987 whose parents were in India at that time will also be considered Indian citizens. Similarly, people born in India after 3 December 2004 will be considered Indian citizens if both their parents are Indians or one of them is Indian and the other is not an illegal migrant.

People from other countries can get citizenship in this way

If a person from another country is living in India continuously for 11 years, then he can apply for citizenship. On the other hand, under CAA i.e. Citizenship Amendment Act, if any minority from India's neighboring countries Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan belongs to Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Christian, Buddhist or Parsi religion, then he will get Indian citizenship after living for 5 years.

If someone is a non-Muslim person from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan, then he cannot apply for citizenship through CAA. Such people will have to apply for citizenship by visiting the official website of the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Government of India https://www.mha.gov.in/en. But those who are eligible under the Citizenship Amendment Act can also apply by visiting Indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in.
