In response to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has granted India’s armed forces full operational freedom to choose the timing, method, and targets of retaliation. The decision came after a high-level security meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, NSA Ajit Doval, and CDS Gen. Anil Chauhan. Sources say Modi reaffirmed India’s resolve to “crush terrorism” and expressed complete faith in the military.
The move signals a potential military response akin to the 2019 Balakot air strikes, especially as evidence links the Lashkar-e-Taiba to the attack, via proxy group The Resistance Front.
Meanwhile, India has revoked visas for Pakistani nationals, suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, and warned foreign governments about Pakistan’s role. Modi declared, “The will of 140 crore Indians will break the back of the masters of terror.”
