“I would be carrying this massive cello on my back and it would either whack me on the top of my head or the backs of my legs. It was a real health hazard. So I gave it up.” Then, she tried to join the school choir, but that didn't work either as she 'couldn’t reach the high notes”.
That the Dance The Night hitmaker would go on to pursue a career in music as a grown-up is perhaps of little surprise. The star, who grew up with brother Gjin, now 19, and sister Rina, 24, has a rockstar dad. 'Dugi', now 56, was once a long-haired rocker in a Kosovan band, called Oda. “Music was always played around the house, so it just always kind of had a big impact on me,” she confessed.
As music journalist John Earls says, “She was rejected for having too deep a voice, but of course, her distinctive tone is a key part of her appeal today. Her teachers must still kick themselves, but nobody knew she’d go on to become an international superstar.”
Fast-forward to May 2024, and Dua Lipa - who last year headlined the iconic Glastonbury Festival - was releasing her third album Radical Optimism, which shot straight to No.1, before embarking in November on her world tour, soon to delight fans of the British capital.
This time round, she'll be on the road till December, with a break in July and August to unwind with family, friends and her Masters Of The Air
Fans flocking to see Dua in the UK are in for a treat, as The Radical Optimism Tour promises stunning visuals, amazing vocals, spectacular dance routines, costumes and all of her hits and who knows - perhaps, a surprise guest or two.
