Alan Titchmarsh wasted no time in questioning a Death in Paradise star during Sunday's Love Your Garden after his appearance on the popular BBC drama left him baffled.

Throughout the latest episode, Alan, 76, was joined by Samantha Womack, who found herself embarrassed just moments in due to a comical mishap, alongside Les Dennis.

Whilst speaking with Les, 71, conversation turned to his 2022 Death in Paradise guest role, where he portrayed Danny Sheridan for a single episode.

The performer appeared as Danny, a psychic medium who became entangled in the Saint Marie police force's newest investigation.

Yet for the part, Les went through a dramatic makeover as his character featured jet-black locks, reports Wales Online.

Les revealed that after the transformation for the character, which required 1.5 hours in the makeup chair and daily black hair colouring each morning, people compared him to Hollywood star Jack Nicholson.

Discussing his completely altered look as Danny in Death in Paradise, presenter Alan confessed: "An appearance in Death in Paradise that confused us all..." before a clip was shown.

Alan laughed: "The hairline there was fascinating! I mean, is that Les Dennis? It was one of those moments!".

Les responded with: "On social media, somebody put: 'He looks like a cross between Jack Nicholson [I thought that's okay! ] and Arthur Fowler from EastEnders!'"

When asked if actors enjoy appearing on Death in Paradise, given its dreamy filming location of Guadeloupe in the French Caribbean, Les confessed: "It's great, it's just the best job to do when you're asked to do it.

"Go out there and be with those wonderful actors - Don Warrington [who plays Commissioner Selwyn Patterson] I think is sublime. Ralf Little [who plays DI Neville Parker] was great as well!".

Previously, Les had spoken about his transformation for Death in Paradise, saying: "I was pleased with that because it means I'm inhabiting a role and they're interested to see who that character is."

He added: "At first I didn't realise they were going to make my character look so different. On the first day I was thinking, 'Is this right?'

"And then when I saw what they did, the make-up department were just brilliant, I thought, 'Yeah, this is him. This is definitely him. This is Danny Sheridan.'"
