FAHRENHEIT SEVEN (3.35) looks a hot pick in the Ladbrokes Ayr Gold Cup. He was incredibly progressive last year and he continued his good form when twice successive earlier this season.
The way he travelled when winning at Hamilton in June on his final start for trainer Mark Usher suggested he was capable of better still. Now with sprint specialist Robert Cowell, he returns from a three-month break but that shouldn’t be a problem as he generally runs to form when fresh.

This distance is his best and the soft conditions are ideal. Have 1pt each-way at 20-1. Sky Bet is paying out on seven places.
SERGEANT WILKO (2.25) is another at his peak when there’s juice in the ground. He looks nicely weighted ahead of the Ladbrokes Ayr Silver Cup. His Ascot sixth behind Brosay two weeks ago was better than it looked as he raced more towards the unfavoured far side from an unhelpful draw.
His low draw shouldn’t be an issue this time and it could even help if the field splits in two as he is quite happy making his own running. Have 1pt each-way at 16-1. Plenty of bookies are offering six places.

There’s a decent card at Newbury, where MASTER BUILDER (2.05) looks a good bet. He was a bit unlucky in Haydock’s Old Borough Cup two weeks ago. His high stall meant he was caught wide for much of the way and he couldn’t find much daylight when he needed it down the straight. That sixth-place finish underestimates his performance.
There’s definitely races to be won with David Menuisier’s stayer. Have 1pt each-way at 11-1. Most firms are going four places.
THEORY OF TIDES (2.40) is another runner worth supporting at Newbury. He completely lost his way after winning the first two starts of his career last year. It probably took him a little while to recover after taking on top-class French star Calandagan in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot.
There were signs the Gosdens had got him back to form when fourth on his belated return to action at York two weeks ago following a gelding operation. Have 1pt each-way at 9-1. A couple of bookies are offering four places.
