Many of us unknowingly develop habits that gradually harm our smartphones. While these actions might seem harmless, they can significantly reduce your phone’s lifespan and performance over time. Here are three such “slow poison” habits you should fix immediately to keep your phone healthy and long-lasting.
1. Charging Your Phone Overnight
Many people plug in their phones before sleeping and leave them charging throughout the night. While it may seem convenient to wake up to a fully charged phone, this habit can seriously damage the battery. Continuous charging after 100% leads to battery wear, reducing its capacity over time. Moreover, overheating from prolonged charging can increase the risk of battery swelling or, in extreme cases, explosion. It’s best to unplug your phone once it’s fully charged.
2. Draining the Battery Completely
If you often use your phone until it completely shuts down, it’s time to change this habit. Fully draining the battery before charging affects both performance and battery health. Experts recommend following the 20:80 rule — charge your phone when it drops to around 20% and unplug it once it reaches 80%. This simple trick can help maintain battery efficiency for a longer period.
3. Using Cheap Local Chargers
Replacing your original charger with a cheap, local one may save a few rupees, but it can cost you your phone in the long run. Local chargers often provide inconsistent power supply and poor-quality current flow, which can damage your battery and internal circuits. Always use original or certified chargers and cables from trusted sources to ensure safe and efficient charging.
