Shefali Jariwala: Bigg-Boss 13 fame, actress-model Shefali Jariwala (42 years) died in Mumbai on Friday. According to media reports, her husband Parag Tyagi, and three others took Shefali to Bellevue Multispecialty Hospital in Mumbai, where doctors declared her dead. Shefali's body has been sent for post-mortem, the cause of death has not been confirmed yet.
Some reports are allegedly citing cardiac arrest as the cause of death, although Amar Ujala does not confirm this.
Initial reports also cited cardiac arrest as the cause of death. Now you must be wondering what is this cardiac arrest. Who are at risk of this and how different is it from a heart attack?
Cardiac arrest and heart attack are different.
Sudden cardiac arrest is the sudden cessation of all heart activities due to irregular heart rate, in which breathing suddenly stops and the person becomes unconscious. If it is not treated in time, the risk of death can increase significantly.
Doctors say that in case of cardiac arrest, if cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is given immediately in emergency treatment, then there is a possibility of saving life, although it is considered more serious and fatal than a heart attack.
Often we make the mistake of considering cardiac arrest and heart attack as the same problem, whereas there are many differences between the two. Let us first understand this.
Heart attack is a problem caused by blockage of coronary arteries. If this condition is left untreated, the flow of blood to the heart stops and it does not get enough oxygen. This condition can be fatal.
On the other hand, cardiac arrest occurs when a person's heart stops pumping blood. In this situation, the patient is unable to breathe normally. Both these conditions are considered fatal.
The common cause of cardiac arrest is considered to be irregularity in heart rate. This problem can occur when the electrical system of the heart is not working properly. In this situation, there may be problems like chest pain, irregularity in a heartbeat, difficulty in breathing, fainting, or dizziness.
How to know if someone has had a cardiac arrest?
The symptoms of cardiac arrest do not appear at first. Cardiac arrest occurs suddenly and the risk of death of the patient can be higher in comparison to heart attack. The symptoms of cardiac arrest are immediate and serious, which is very important to pay attention to in time. If a person has suddenly fainted, there is no pulse, there is no breathing, then this can be a sign of cardiac arrest.
Sometimes, even before sudden cardiac arrest, some people may have many problems, which also need to be paid serious attention to.
It may cause chest discomfort, shortness of breath, feeling weak, and rapid heartbeat, which should not be ignored.
In cardiac arrest, pulse, and blood pressure are disrupted. In such a situation, blood is not able to reach the brain and other parts of the body, all these things are happening very fast. This is why cardiac arrest is considered more dangerous.
Now the question is what is the cause of cardiac arrest?
Doctors say this problem occurs due to changes in the electrical activity of the heart. Due to this change, the heart stops pumping blood and blood does not flow in the body. To understand cardiac arrest, it is important to understand the signaling system of the heart. Due to any problem in these signals, the heart rate can be very fast or very slow. Due to this cardiac arrest occurs.
It is important to know here that cardiac arrest can also occur in people who do not already have any heart disease. Those who already have coronary artery disease or have had a heart attack are at a higher risk of cardiac arrest.
High blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, and diabetes increase this risk even more, which needs to be paid serious attention to.
What to do to avoid cardiac arrest?
Cardiac arrest can be avoided by adopting a lifestyle and eating habits that maintain good heart health. For this, it is important to consume a diet that improves heart health, exercise regularly, control weight, and avoid smoking.
Managing conditions such as high blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes is also important to prevent both cardiac arrest and heart attack. CPR is considered a life-saving method in both cardiac arrest and heart attack situations, and everyone needs to learn it.
