Bangladesh's head coach Chandika Hathurusinghe has been suspended and immediately sacked by the BCB. Phil Simmons has now been made the head coach of the Bangladesh team in place of Chandika Hathurusinghe. He will hold this responsibility till the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Chandika Hathurusinghe dropped from Bangladesh team

Chandika Hathurusinghe was made the head coach of the Bangladesh team in the year 2023. Hathurusinghe's current contract was till the end of the Champions Trophy i.e. February 2025. But on disciplinary grounds, the BCB has removed him from the team prematurely. According to reports, Chandika Hathurusinghe had slapped a player of the team during the 2023 ODI World Cup. The Bangladesh Cricket Board has now taken this decision by taking action on this incident.

55-year-old Chandika Hathurusinghe is from Sri Lanka, he has played for his country in Test and ODI formats. After retirement, he started his new career as a coach. This was his second tenure with the Bangladesh team. Earlier, he held this post for three years from 2014 to 2017. BCB President Farooq Ahmed said, 'There are two allegations of misconduct against Hathurusinghe. The first allegation is of attacking a player. The second allegation is that he took too many leaves, which were much more than his contract.

Who is Bangladesh's new head coach Phil Simmons?

Former West Indies cricketer Phil Simmons will now be the interim head coach of Bangladesh. Phil Simmons has worked as a coach with Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, and West Indies teams. His contract is till the Champions Trophy 2025. Till then he will take charge of the team. Simmons has recently coached his West Indies team, which he led from 2019 to the end of the Australian tour of this year. Now his first assignment will be the two-match home series to be played against South Africa this month.
