The Rajasthan Royals (RR), the IPL team for which young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi plays, is currently embroiled in a serious legal dispute. The controversy involves the team’s owner Manoj Badale and former co-owner Raj Kundra, husband of actress Shilpa Shetty. The matter has escalated to the London High Court amid allegations of blackmail and financial misconduct.
What’s the dispute about?
Manoj Badale, holding the majority 65% stake through Emerging Media Ventures, has accused Raj Kundra of blackmail related to Kundra’s minority 11.7% stake in the franchise. Kundra was compelled to give up his stake after being found guilty of betting-related offenses in IPL 2015, which led to a two-year suspension of Rajasthan Royals.
Badale’s lawyer, Adam Specker, said Kundra threatened to file complaints with Indian authorities and the BCCI, alleging he was misled about the true value of his shares. An email from Kundra to Badale last month reportedly claimed deception and suggested a willingness to discuss the matter.
Raj Kundra’s public allegations
Kundra had recently tweeted promises to expose “serious financial misconduct, money laundering, and hidden transactions” involving a key Rajasthan Royals promoter. His revelations have intensified the ongoing controversy.
Amidst the turmoil, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi has made headlines with his record-breaking IPL innings. Playing for Rajasthan Royals, he scored the fastest century in IPL history — just 35 balls against Gujarat Titans — smashing 11 sixes with a strike rate above 265, rewriting several records in the process.
The dispute raises questions on the future stability of the Rajasthan Royals franchise just as their young star Vaibhav shines on the field. Fans and cricketing circles will be watching closely as this legal battle unfolds.
