Haryana Congress MLA's Son Allegedly Fakes Illness to Evade Jail Time

Chandigarh: Sikandar Singh, son of Haryana Congress MLA Dharam Singh Chhokar, was recently spotted roaming outside a hospital in Rohtak despite being arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case. He, along with his father, is accused of defrauding over 1,500 homebuyers and siphoning off ₹400 crore by fabricating construction expenditures through their real estate firm.

Sikandar Singh was arrested in March this year, and his bail plea was denied by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Sources indicate that he has been feigning illness and manipulating medical records to evade jail time. He has been admitted to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in Rohtak twice—first from September 2 to 16, and then from September 26 to the present. However, sources assert that he does not suffer from any serious medical conditions.

CCTV footage and medical records reveal that Sikandar has been leaving the hospital unlawfully while under judicial custody. Reports suggest that he has been seen driving a Fortuner SUV, staying in hotels, attending parties, campaigning for the upcoming Assembly elections, and using his phone—all actions that clearly violate legal protocols.

This revelation follows a directive from the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday, instructing the ED and Haryana Police to arrest Dharam Singh Chhokar if he does not surrender within 24 hours. Chhokar, who is seeking re-election from the Samalkha constituency, faces multiple criminal charges and has been evading arrest despite a non-bailable warrant against him.

The investigation into the father-son duo was initiated by the ED in 2023 after an FIR lodged by the Gurgaon police. The FIR accused them of orchestrating a large-scale real estate fraud through their company, Mihira Group. They had launched an affordable housing project in Sector 68, Gurugram, collecting approximately ₹363 crore from 1,500 homebuyers. Despite assurances to complete the project by 2021-22, the company allegedly failed to deliver on its commitments.
