Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a three-day visit to the United States this week, starting with the Quad Summit in Wilmington, Delaware, on September 21. During this summit, he will meet with US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

The agenda will include new initiatives from the Quad aimed at ensuring peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific, addressing the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, and discussing reforms in global governance. Following the summit, Modi will head to New York on September 22 for an interaction with the Indian diaspora in Long Island and will participate in the Summit of the Future at the UN General Assembly the next day.

On the sidelines of the General Assembly, Modi will engage in bilateral meetings with other world leaders and hold a roundtable discussion with CEOs of American companies focused on advanced technologies like AI, quantum computing, and semiconductors.

Key global challenges, including the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict and rising tensions in West Asia, will be addressed at the Quad Leaders’ Summit. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri highlighted that India had initially planned to host the summit this year but agreed to the US request to take over the hosting in 2025.

The Quad Summit aims to foster cooperation on various pressing issues, including health security, climate change, infrastructure, maritime security, and humanitarian assistance. There will be a special focus on implementing the sustainable development goals (SDGs) and enhancing connectivity in the Indo-Pacific.

Additionally, the four nations will launch the Cancer Moonshot initiative at the summit, aimed at improving cancer prevention, detection, and treatment across the region. New commitments and initiatives in various sectors, including investment and capacity building, are also expected to be announced.
