New Delhi: In a first, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. According to reports, the two-day event has been tentatively scheduled for November 24-25.
This will be the second time that an IPL auction will be held outside the Indian subcontinent. The first such event was held last year in Dubai.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials have already conducted preliminary venue assessments in Saudi Arabia, reported the CricTracker.
Before Riyadh was chosen as the venue, several international locations including Dubai, Singapore, and Vienna were reportedly considered.
Last month, the franchises had announced their retention lists with 46 players being retained overall for a combined amount of INR 558.5 crore. Indian players have so far dominated the retention roster. As many as 36 of the retained players are Indians.
Some of the notable names in the auction pool include Jos Buttler, Glenn Maxwell, Faf du Plessis, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Shreyas Iyer.
