Fans who tuned into the latest episode of were left baffled over one contestant's unusual habit. During the penultimate match of the quarter-final rounds, Warwick University took on University College London to qualify for the semi-finals. As the quiz started, viewers couldn't help but notice that one of the players on Warwick's team had a very strange way of pressing his buzzer. As host Amol read out the questions to both teams, the player Hart had his elbow sticking out as he sat ready to buzz with an answer.
This quickly caught the attention of BBC fans, who labelled his habit "annoying" and and "insufferable." One person commented on X, "Oh no it's Hart of the raised elbow ."
A second person also echoed, "Hart is annoying me already #UniversityChallenge." A third also similarly commented, " Hart's craned arm stance gives him the extra weight/leverage for hitting that buzzer it seems."
Despite his habit, many viewers praised the player and his general knowledge. One person said, "Hart's a clever guy & it's fascinating to see how his brain processes data #UniversityChallenge."
Another also chimed in, " Genuinely feel for Hart. Very clever chap, but he's going to spontaneously combust before he's 30."
At the end of the quiz, Warwick defeated UCL to make their way through to the semi-final rounds. Warwick scored 220 points, whilst UCL only scored 125 points and it meant the end of the road for their team.
Amol sighed and said, "Oh, UCL, what a run you've had. It feels like you've been on TV every week since 2005. It's been such a pleasure getting to know you. Thank you so much for being such great sports. Warwick - anything over 200 is terrific at this stage. It was a really strong performance."
University Challenge resumes on Monday 14 April at 8:30pm on BBC Two.
