Two British mothers are battling for their lives after being mowed down by a taxi during their final evening in Ibiza, a relative has revealed.
Lauren Holmes, 27, and Ebony Cordingley, 26, were making their way back to their accommodation following dinner when tragedy struck in the early hours of Tuesday morning on the Spanish party island, leaving both women with devastating injuries.
A 24 year old Spanish driver was subjected to breath tests following the horror smash, though police have yet to make any arrests in connection with the incident.
Medical staff informed Ms Cordingley's family - the West Yorkshire mum hails from Shipley - that the mother-of-three had sustained catastrophic injuries including fractured bones in both lower limbs, multiple broken ribs, brain bleeding and a perforated lung, alongside numerous open wounds requiring urgent surgical intervention.
Her condition has since stabilised after initially being classified as "critical", reports the Mirror.
Ms Holmes, who has two children, meanwhile endured two shattered legs, a broken arm, spinal fractures, broken ribs and a punctured lung.
She continues to receive treatment in intensive care at a separate medical facility.
Ebony's sister Shannon, who has launched a GoFundMe campaign to "support her and care for the boys", revealed today that she believed the pair had been crossing the street en route to their hotel following their evening meal when the taxi ploughed into them. She added: "They weren't drinking, weren't leaving any clubs, they played in a park on swings, went for a walk, went for food then walked back to their hotel not realising the dangers of the roads around there."
Ebony wrote on the fundraising page: "Right now, doctors are doing everything they can, but the reality is that her recovery will be long, uncertain, and incredibly difficult. We simply do not know yet how serious or lasting her injuries will be. What we do know is that she will need time, care, and strength to heal - and her three young sons need their mum more than ever.
"As a family, we are doing all we can to support her and care for the boys, but the challenges are overwhelming. The costs of being by her side abroad, potential medical expenses, and the long-term support her children will need are more than we can manage alone."
A separate GoFundMe page has been established by Ms Holmes' relatives, who revealed they had obtained a quotation from the air ambulance service "who can assist Lauren in her return home" and transport her to and from hospital at either end of the journey.
"Lauren is desperate to come home to receive her treatment that she so desperately needs", the family stated.
"We don't know what the future holds but we are holding onto hope, your kindness will make a massive difference as we face the long road ahead to get our girl home."
A spokesperson for the Foreign Office informed the Mirror: "We are supporting two British nationals who have been hospitalised in Spain, and are in contact with the local authorities."
