A woman has died following an incident on the M23 that created caused major delays for people getting to Gatwick Airport. Officers were called over concerns for her safety at around 6am today, Surrey Comet reports. The South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended and the woman, in her 50s, was pronounced dead on the road.
She was believed to have had contact with the police in the days leading up to her death, the outlet added. An investigation has begun into the circumstances of her death. Motorists on the M23 faced major delays this morning after the incident prompted a partial closure of the motorway in both directions. The northbound carriage was closed between J9 (Gatwick Airport) and J8 Redhill. Just after 7am, National Highways said travellers should expect around 60 minutes of delays northbound.
