The Traitors is arguably one of the most famous TV shows on our screens at the moment. It's loved all over the world, and so much so that there are several spin-off versions set in countries such as Australia, the Netherlands, Italy, and Ireland. Yes, the Traitors even has a Finnish spin-off version. Hosted by Christoffer Strandberg, the series features 18 Finnish celebrities competing in a game of psychological strategy - you know the drill. It first aired in 2023 and is filmed at Vanajanlinna Castle. However, tragedy struck last year when production made the tough decision to cancel the airing of the final episode following the tragic murder of contestant Janne Puhakka.
Janne, who had quickly become a fan favorite for his strategic gameplay, was killed at the age of 29 on 13 October 2024 after he was shot by his partner, Rolf Nordmo. A friend of the former sportsman found him dead in his apartment after Janne failed to respond to calls and messages.
Matti Högman, who led the police investigation, previously told the Finnish paper YLE that Puhakka had moved out of their home after the relationship ended "several weeks ago".
Before his death, it was reported that Janne visited his former home to discuss the practical arrangements of the split with the veterinarian, according to MailOnline.
Earlier this year, Rolf Nordmo was sentenced to life for the murder of Janne. He was handed a life sentence for the crime, which means in Finland an average of 14 to 15 years behind bars.
A translated statement about the postponement from TV channel Nelonen said at the time: "The final episode of the season of Petolliset was scheduled to be shown on Thursday of this week.
"We have come to the conclusion that right now is not the right time to air an episode. We will return to the question of the possible presentation of the episode later. We share in the grief of Janne's loved ones."
Janne was a former player for Espoo Blues and Espoo United. An emotional tribute was paid at the time by Liiga, Finland's top ice hockey league, which described him on X as "an important role model" and said his "courage and openness left an indelible mark on Finnish hockey".
