Manchester United teenager Jayden Ngwashi has reportedly snubbed interest from Premier League and European clubs to commit his future to Old Trafford. The rising star has penned a four-year deal amid concerns that he may be lost to a rival.
United have high hopes for 16-year-old Ngwashi. He played five times at Under-18 level last season and even made his Premier League 2 debut, appearing twice for the Red Devils' U21s. A four-time England U17 international, the centre-back also qualifies to play for Italy. His decision to commit his future to United is a major boost for Ruben Amorim, who is hoping to bring young players through at Old Trafford.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims that Ngwashi rejected interest from English and European clubs. A four-year deal is a substantial contract length for a 16-year-old to sign. Professional terms come into effect when a player turns 17.
United are determined to get their best young players signed to new contracts, persuading them against moving to other clubs. Reece Munro, who captained their U18 team on occasion last season, signed his first professional contract earlier this month.
Munro wrote on Instagram: "Delighted to announce I've signed my first professional contract with this massive club, a proud moment for me and my family. Thank you to those who have played a role in my journey so far. Hard work continues."
United's U21 team finished fifth out of 26 teams in Premier League 2 last season. The U18s finished second behind rivals Manchester City in the U18 Premier League North.
It is expected to be a busy summer at all levels for United over the coming months. Amorim's squad needs heavy reinvestment after a disastrous 2024-25 campaign, although the volume of arrivals will likely depend on raising significant funds through player sales.
Matheus Cunha was United's first senior signing of the summer, having been acquired from Wolves in a £62.5million deal. Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo is next on the club's radar. United are widely understood to be in pole position to sign the Cameroon international despite interest from his former Bees boss Thomas Frank, who has joined Tottenham.

A new centre-forward is high on the club's agenda, too. Viktor Gyokeres is a top target, but signing the Swedish star from Sporting could be a difficult deal to conclude. It remains to be seen whether the Portuguese club soften their stance on his reported £68m valuation, a fee clubs are hesitant to spend on a 27-year-old.
